The original overland experience
Dragoman Overland has over forty years in overland travel, running overland trips across the four great continents of Africa, Asia, North and South America. So we do overlanding with absolute expertise and professionalism.
Most of our travellers are between 18 and 40 and to travel overland attitude is more important than age. Our groups are usually a mix of sexes, nationalities and come from all walks of life.
Travelling: we're passionate about it. And (as someone smarter than us once said) we think it's as much the journey, as the destinations that thrill us. Dragoman Overland was created from this enthusiasm. It was set up in the sixties by enthusiasts who wanted to share their own experiences with other travellers: to get people to see what they already had.
Dragoman has been running for 24 years. The original Encounter Overland operation with its 40 years of wandering started with trips from London to Kathmandu. Five years ago, Dragoman and Encounter merged into today's Dragoman Overland. Still an important part of Dragoman Overland, Encounter's more basic style is one of the favourite types of adventure travel for 18 to 35 year olds.
Today, we have a combined fleet of over 35 Dragoman Overland and Encounter overland trucks around the world. We've pioneered more routes then any other adventure travel operator with an administration, training and maintenance base in Suffolk. We're renowned for our trips and commitment to responsible tourism, benefiting the local people of the countries we visit.
We still think overlanding is the most authentic and accessible way of experiencing new countries, their people and cultures.
On the road with Dragoman Overland.
Our overland trips are designed to offer freedom and flexibility. There's a route to follow rather than a strict hour-by-hour itinerary. We stay in family run hotels, local campsites and use cooks in East and Southern Africa so you get a real taste of traditional culinary delights at feeding time. Basically, overlanding is a really fun and social way to travel and Africa overland tours are perhaps the best way to get really close to the wildlife and the people.
Trip Profile: 'Is this trip for me?'
Each trip has a profile, clearly defining the style and feel of the journey as well as an adventure rating – either Easy, Moderate, Challenging or Extreme. Be realistic, climbing over the Andes is probably best avoided if you've just undergone a triple heart bypass
